Boat & RV Storage.

For many a boat is also a recreational vehicle or a RV! It is meant for leisure or pleasure and boating is as serious a hobby as moving along the countryside in your very own RV. Because the tremendous value both these types of vehicles carry not just monetarily, but also emotionally, since they are very close to our hearts, storing them during harsh winter months is critical, if you want them back in immaculate condition, after winter is over and the weather permits you to use them again. Since storing a boat and RV is slightly different from each other, let us discuss them separately too. Firstly, for a boat, winter is a good season not only to store it but also to conduct some repairing jobs while not in use. The first area of concern for boat storage would be to check whether the location is good for your boat and convenient for you. There are several options you have when storing a boat:

You could store your boat in a completely enclosed area which is not exposed to any external environment and is fully protected.

The top of the boat is covered whereas some other areas are exposed to external weather conditions.

The area is completely open and there is no kind of shelter for your boat whatsoever.

While choosing boat storage facility, remember, completely closed areas are not only expensive but would normally be situated in the dock areas, which may not be very convenient for you. To cut down on storage costs, you could choose a space which is situated inland and further you go, the cost comes down further. The best option is to store your boat at a place where you require it to be. Other factors which affect the storage cost are the size of the space as well as security arrangements etc. The local facilities must be thoroughly checked to find the best option for storing your boat which is not only convenient for you but affordable as well.

When it is a question of storing your RV during winter, there are some steps which you must take before you put it away for storage. These steps include:

Disconnect the batteries and keep all appliances in an unplugged state.

The ice maker water feed lines also must be disconnected and all water must be properly drained out.

It is a good idea to disconnect the refrigerator and remove all canned foods from the RV as winter temperature may make the cans burst and cause accident.

The hot water channels also need to be drained and flushed.

After draining out your water system, pump in non toxic RV antifreeze through all the channels. You could check whether the antifreeze is flowing through the channels correctly by opening all the taps in the RV. Antifreeze must also be added to sink and shower taps.

Antifreeze should be added to the engine cooling system of the RV.

Remove all upholstery and bedding from the vehicle and put some rat poison. This will keep your RV pest-free.

To protect your RV from any damage caused by snow, it is better to cover your RV with a tarpaulin wrap.
